2024 Apr 3rd

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Grouse, duck and goose season are open and so is bow season for deer and moose. We are only a few weeks from the rifle seasons. For some of you Christmas is the best time and for some of you it’s summer, but for us hunter types we are in our glory now as the leaves start to change then finally fall off and it’s time to start spending more time in the bush.

It’s time to make sure you have the perfect firearm and enough ammunition. This year the ammo shortage is worse than last year. Many calibers are sold out completely at every supplier and most are take what you can get for availability. I may not have the brand or grain you are looking for but I can usually get you something so you can still go hunting with your favorite gun. Used guns are scarce as no one is willing to part with them and a lot of new guns are unavailable as well. Levers are almost non-existent and a lot of more traditional makes and models are gone too. We are now seeing a lot more firearms manufactured in Turkey and they are actually really great. A lot are manufactured even better than the traditional guns and customers are loving them.

At Oley’s we used the time the doors were closed during this springs lockdown to renovate the building and the armoury has doubled in size. Right now the racks are finally full to meet the demand but it hasn’t been easy to keep them that way. Demand is high and all of the dealers are trying to get the same product and if we don’t happen to check the suppliers website the morning the shipments arrive there we don’t get anything. No matter what I will keep trying to ensure I have the best selection possible.

This year things will be different again that what we are used to. We took hunting for granted in the past and meeting up with everyone at the hunt camp was a given. For many of us this it will be two years since we have met up with some of our hunting buddy’s and some won’t even get to go this year and will wait at least one more year before they get to come. However it happens, even if it’s in a different way than most years, take what you have- get what you can get-and go hunting!
