The last couple days of the turkey season are wrapping up and June is about to start. My daughter got her very first turkey on her first morning out, a gorgeous Tom she shot with her grandfather down south and I couldn’t be more proud. My turkey season, however, has not been as successful as hers. I have been out day after day, every time I hear that bird gobbling I go running out and see if I can call him in. That turkey calls back and forth to me for hours, most mornings and most nights but has never come over to me. I have a very poor ability to distinguish the direction sound is coming from so it never really occurred to me that he was always in the same direction as the neighbour’s farm. See where I am going with this? I have spent the last month calling back and forth with a turkey-who lives in a pen! I know some neighbours are great and will do anything for you but I don’t think that turkey is going to end up on my wall at work and I know I will be teased for many years to come about this one.
June is almost here and it is time to start thinking about fathers day. Whether it is your dad, stepdad, uncle, brother or any of the special men in your life- this is the time to celebrate everything they do for you. A yummy meal is usually part of the day in our family and last year we added on trying out my dad’s new gift and shot Pop-Packs in the back yard. For mothers day this year we had a skeet shoot with all the kids and family that could come. Grab a couple boxes of shells and a box of skeets and you have a day full of memories just waiting to be made. You could even take it up one level and grab some Thundershot exploding targets. I don’t care how old you are those things are a blast-literally! No matter what you choose to do that day, enjoy the special men in your life and remember everything they taught you and all the great memories you had together.
