It’s the most crazy and wonderful time of the year, and I am not talking just because it is grey sweatpants season either. It’s officially bear, duck, grouse and goose season and we are moments from moose season and then… it’s DEER SEASON! If there is one thing I know-just when I think it can’t get any crazier at Oley’s-it does. What I used to sell previously in a year is now what we sell in a week. Delivery trucks with boxes and skids just never seem to stop coming in and the items go out to new homes just as fast as they come in. But no matter how crazy life is- get out hunting in whatever form that is for you. It doesn’t matter what you go out for-just go! If you haven’t been to a hunt camp you just can’t describe the atmosphere of fun, friendship and excitement for the upcoming hunt. There are usually a few drinks, way too much food and stories told of years gone by. The joy of seeing the eldest hunter returning for another year and a new hunter going for his first is priceless. I am not moose hunting this year but still got to go for the night before archery season and this year it was a squabble over who was sleeping where, who ate all the salsa and someone trying to hide and eat the homemade cookies. The thrill of the hunt is still to come and wondering who will be the lucky one to make the shot. I often talk about memories and that is really what it is all about. Now I am waiting for the word that one of the hunters was successful and then I get to go back and take some photos. Successful or not it will still be a great hunt for all who get to participate, so if you haven’t already get yourself geared up and head out. And whatever season you choose-celebrate it!
