What is the worst thing you can hear as the owner of a gun store? It’s probably not what you think but it still makes my stomach drop and my whole being feel sick. It’s the word “surrender”. Also known as “submitted for destruction”, “disposed of,” “handed/turned in” closely followed by “gave away.” Unless it is an emergency situation where there is no option to wait, there is almost no reason to do this. No one would take a $5 bill, $50 bill or $100 bill and hand it to someone else and say “here- I don’t want this anymore.” That exactly what you are doing when surrendering or giving away a firearm. I have seen thousands and thousands of firearms and I have yet to see one that is worth nothing. It may only have value for parts but it’s still worth something. On the flip side some firearms are worth thousands of dollars. Wouldn’t that be nice to have?
Let’s take the financial side out of the equation. What about the memories your firearm has given you or your family member? Why not allow that firearm to give more memories to a new owner. Then what about the guy that accidentally dropped a family heirloom this year and broke a part, what if yours has that part that he needs to he can continue to use a firearm that means so much to him and his family? The reasons are simply endless.
I cannot count the number of times we have gone to pick up firearms. In an emergency situation even in the middle of the night. I have also opened the business on a day off to allow firearms to come in that needed to be stored during a time where there was a safety concern that could not wait until the next day. Owning a gun store is a commitment that doesn’t end when the doors to the building lock, it is a passion that knows to time limits.
So what do you do when you find you or someone you know has firearms that they cannot or don’t want to keep? CALL 705-724-OLEY. A one minute phone call is all that is required. We will discuss your situation and make a plan for the firearms to be dropped off or picked up. It’s very quick and simple and we take care of all the hard work for you. It is important to remember there are still options in the event that the person with a P.A.L. is no longer able to deal with their firearms. Most of the year we buy firearms but all year long we take them on consignment. With both options you end up with cash in your pocket and the firearms get to give someone else joy. What is the best thing about being the owner of a gun store? The look on the face of someone who finds the gun of their dreams-and maybe that gun used to be yours.
